Full vs. Partial vs. Implant-Supported

A full denture replaces an entire upper or lower arch. A partial denture fills in gaps while clasping onto your remaining natural teeth. An implant-supported denture snaps onto a small number of dental implants for significantly more stability than a traditional removable denture — worth asking about if you've had trouble with slipping in the past. Dr. Pedram Fakheri, our implant specialist, can evaluate whether you're a candidate; see his background on our Meet the Doctors page.

We'll confirm what your insurance covers before treatment, and our financing options can help if you're covering the cost yourself.

Adjusting to New Dentures

It's normal for new dentures to feel a little unusual for the first few weeks — speaking and eating both take some practice. We schedule follow-up adjustments after your denture is placed specifically to fix sore spots and fit issues, so don't wait for your next six-month visit if something feels off.

Caring for Your Dentures

  • Rinse after eating and brush daily with a denture-specific cleaner, not regular toothpaste
  • Remove and soak overnight to let your gums rest
  • Handle over a folded towel or water to avoid damage from dropping
  • Bring them to your regular checkups so we can check both fit and your remaining natural teeth

Frequently Asked Questions

How long do dentures last?

Most dentures last 5–10 years before needing replacement or relining, as your jawbone and gums change shape over time.

Can I eat normally with dentures?

Yes, after an adjustment period. We recommend easing back into harder or chewier foods gradually.

What's a reline?

A reline refits the inside of an existing denture to your current gum shape, which changes gradually over time — it's often cheaper than a full replacement.

Will people be able to tell I'm wearing dentures?

Modern dentures are shade- and shape-matched to look natural; most people won't notice unless you tell them.

Are implant-supported dentures worth it?

If you've struggled with slipping or discomfort in a traditional denture, most patients find the added stability of implant support worth the extra cost.
